Piano Tuning Cost & Piano Moving Cost: Your Questions Answered

piano tuning costAre you wondering how much it costs to tune a piano – or to move a piano? I am often asked why I don’t put prices on my website. In this post, I’m going to answer some questions about Piano Tuning Cost & Piano Moving Cost.

Imagine you asked a car mechanic how much it would cost to repair a car. It made strange noises and you were shopping for the best rate from several car repair places. I bet the first question you’d get is what kind of car you have, and then they would tell you that they would have to take a look before they could give you an estimate.

After all, it would make a huge difference in price whether you had a Toyota or a BMW, a Volkswagen or a Mercedes. And that’s not the end of it. They need to know which model it is, i.e., whether your Toyota is a Corolla, a Camry, a Prius, or a Highlander.

And so it is with pianos…

Piano Tuning Cost

So when someone calls me to find out how much I charge for tuning a piano, I usually
ask them about their piano first. What kind of a piano is it, how old is it, Where is it kept, and when was the last tuning? Usually, I can tell them how much I charge once I know those things.

The fact is that there’s a range, and if I were to publish a set price, it might not reflect the real cost. So I will provide the price once I know more.

There are also other factors that go into pricing… If the piano hasn’t been tuned for a long time, it might also need some minor repairs in order to sound its best.

Piano Moving Cost

The situation is similar when it comes to piano moving cost. Only in this case, the size and weight of the piano will be the deciding factor, along with its age.

As you well know, a piano is very heavy and bulky. Some pianos are bulkier than others, of course. Moving a grand piano is going to be more challenging than moving an upright, at least usually.

The other part of the equation is where the piano is located and whether it will have to be moved up and/or down some stairs. And then there’s the distance over which it will have to be moved.

As you see, there’s more to moving a piano than you might first expect. And so estimating the cost of moving a piano can be a challenge and requires knowing most of the details.

I would like to get my Lester Grand Piano Tuned and cleaned up. There ate (5) Ivories that have come off after sitting in storage for 5 years. There is on key sticking. This piano was last serviced 6 years ago. We live in the Carmel Church area of Ruther Glen mailing code 22546, VA. This personal piano is in our home. What is your schedule like?
