Born in Richmond, Virginia, Blanton Bendall grew up in Hanover county in the small town of Montpelier right on the South Anna river.
He learned to play the piano at the relatively “ripe” age of 15, and then took piano lessons for years. It turned out that he had a great ear (his clients keep telling hinm that!). He can play by ear – and he can tune by ear too.
He apprenticed under the late Robert Bartnik for two years, where he learned how to restore pianos as well as tune them. And he’s been tuning and restoring pianos since 2006, and going full-time since 2009.
Blanton’s clients value his patience and preciseness when he tunes their pianos. The same qualities come in handy when he repairs or restores pianos. In fact, he considers himself a perfectionist, and his clients agree.
He’s willing to work hard and do what it takes to get the best sound out of any piano he works on. He feels that every piano should reach its full potential whether it’s a Steinway or a family heirloom.
Many of Blanton’s tuning customers are located in and around Montpelier and Western Hanover area. Frequently, Blanton travels as far out as Louisa and the Lake Anna area. He tunes for many different churches and schools in and around Ashland and Mechanicsville, as well as in the Greater Richmond area and all over Central Virginia.
