Get Your Piano Ready for the Holidays

piano ready for the holodaysFall has come and gone and you’re probably thinking about getting your piano ready for the holidays. After the last holidays were more of a solitary experience for most people, you’re surely looking forward to having lots of family and friends over to celebrate.

And all those guests call for preparation. So what are the steps to get ready for them? Read on for some tips to make sure your holiday celebrations are events your family members and friends will be sure to remember.

1. Make your piano sound great

The first item on the agenda is to make sure your piano sounds great. Is it in tune? When was the last time you had it tuned? If it’s been more than 6 to 9 months, it is time to give it a little tune-up. Of course, with the holidays coming up, others have the same idea, so call or text your Richmond piano tuner as soon as possible to get on his calendar.

2. Give your piano a festive look

A great way to make your piano really shine is to give it a festive look. What does that mean? Add some holiday decorations to really make it shine. Depending on the other decorations you have in the room, you can even place a miniature tree on top, or maybe next to it. Add some beautiful baubles and glass galls, and tinsel, or whatever decorations please you most.

3. Get your piano ready for the holidays with music

You may already have plenty of sheet music for the holidays, and if so, it’s time to get it out and have it ready to play for your own enjoyment or that of your guests. If you’re a little short on music, there’s still plenty of time to shop for it, either online or in your favorite local piano store.

4. Get ready to play your holiday music

Depending on your skill level, you may also want to practice playing your favorite holiday music. If you’re playing year-round, that may not be an issue, but if you have some new music you want to try out, give yourself time to rehearse it. And if you want to play with other musicians and/or singers, maybe adding a violinist or cellist, or a guitar to your ensemble, rehearsing is a must.

5. How to expand your repertoire

Perhaps you have some favorite songs you play every year. But how about expanding your repertoire? There are a lot of websites devoted to provide you with wonderful holiday music, and even sites that help you practice holiday tunes. They’re geared to accommodate all levels of expertise, from beginners to highly experienced players. Have fun exploring them and finding your new favorites. Here are 10 holiday tunes anyone can play.

Piano Holiday Season 2020

Piano holiday season 2020The piano holiday season 2020 is different from any that came before. What makes it different? Almost a year’s worth of the coronavirus, face masks and social distancing.

With all the restraints placed on us as far as going out is concerned, many people are focusing on things they can enjoy doing at home, and playing music is at the top of the list, certainly for music lovers. If you’ve been playing the piano for years, you know all the joy it can bring into your life. And if you have decided to start playing during the last year, you’ve discovered it as well.

The interesting thing is that most piano showrooms were closed since they were regarded as “non-essential” businesses. But that didn’t seem to hurt their business at all. In fact, business has boomed, as you can read in this article.

The benefits of having a piano at home

There are many benefits to having a piano at home. First you and your kids can play anytime you want. Now that we all are spending much more time at home than we usually would, that’s a big advantage.

Playing music also has many benefits, from bringing enjoyment to keeping our mood stable and our minds focused. Research has also shown that it helps with brain development, which helps kids do better in school, and keeps the rest of us sharp for many years to come.

Sharing piano holiday season 2020

Inviting lots of people over to a recital is a no-no right now. And recitals at school are no longer happening. But that doesn’t mean that we cannot share our piano holiday music in 2020.

We’ve all become accustomed to Zoom. Whether we’re using a tablet, a computer, or simply the phone, we can record and share anything we want, including our favorite piano music. And if you’re wondering what to play, take a look at some of my Christmas music suggestions.

Keeping that piano in tune

Did you remember to get your piano tuned the last few months? If not, it’s not too late to get it in great shape before Christmas, The best way to get on my schedule is by sending me a text at 804-677-2416, preferably Monday through Friday between 9 and 6. If you prefer to call, that works too, but texting is better since I can’t take calls while I’m working, but I can always check my texts.

A thoughtful gift… Piano gift certificates

If you have a friend with a piano, you can also send them a piano gift certificate. Just give me a call. If they haven’t tuned their piano yet, it will come in really handy. And if they have, the next tune-up will be coming up in late spring – and they’ll remember you fondly then.

So enjoy your piano and use it (along with zoom) to bring joy to your friends and family, close-by or far away. And if I can help you with anything during this unique piano holiday season 2020, such as tuning, repairs, or gift certificates, let me know. Just text me Monday through Friday between 9 and 6 at 804-677-2416.

Christmas Gifts For Piano Players

christmas gifts for piano players

What do you give your piano playing loved ones for Christmas? It depends, of course. But I’m going to make some suggestions for perfect Christmas Gifts for Piano Players!

After all, piano players love getting gifts just as much as everybody else. Even if one of the potential gifts definitely won’t fit under the Christmas tree!

Then again, some of the presents will fit just fine. Including this gorgeous piano sweater from Ali Express.

The Obvious Christmas Gifts for Piano Players

Well duh! The most obvious gift for a piano player is… a PIANO! Who would have guessed. Maybe it’s time for an upgrade. Maybe the old piano is being restored, and that can take a LONG time. So in the meantime, either a loaner or a second piano might be just the ticket.

Whatever the case may be… if a piano is to arrive at its new home, it will need to be moved. After all, it cannot walk by itself. So you’ll need a professional piano mover. Speaking of which, piano moves could also make for terrific Christmas gifts for piano players.

Fortunately, I work with a team of professional piano movers. Just call or TEXT me at 804-677-2416 and I can arrange the transportation! Whether the move is just down the street or halfway across the state, they can handle it.

Less Obvious Christmas Gifts for Piano Players

Then, there are less obvious gifts… and these do fit under the tree! Many piano players love sheet music – so go find out what kind of music they would most like to play next, and pick up the sheet music so they can do it. And of course, the most popular choice: Piano music for the holidays!

And right along with sheet music comes music on CD’s DVD’s and even in electronic format that will fit into an iPhone, and iPod, and other such  devices.

What if the piano emits some sour notes? It’s time for a piano tuning! And guess what? Every year, by popular request, I offer Piano Tuning Gift Certificates! They definitely fit under the tree, and will make your beloved piano player very happy.

And then, there’s a gift that would probably also be welcome even though that one will not quite fit under the tree either…

A piano stool! Yup. A piano player needs to sit somewhere to play, and if the stool has been around for years and years, a new comfy, cushy stool could be very welcome.

Fun Gifts for Piano Players

Then, there are fun gifts for the piano player(s) in your life. For example a piano tie, most often decorated with a keyboard. Or, I’ve seen some awesome piano sweaters! Just Google them to check them out. They’re just gorgeous!

And that’s not all. You can get all kinds of things with a piano pattern. Just go wild as you check them out. And I bet they will be very welcome!

But there’s nothing that will come in so handy – and is as easy to get – as a Piano Tuning Gift Certificate! Your piano playing loved one will definitely appreciate that.

Just text me at 804-677-2416 and we can make the arrangements. OR you can even make the appointment and have that piano tuned as one of the Christmas gifts for piano players.
