Does your piano sound tubby? Has it lost its brightness? As pianos get older, they may need some extra TLC. Fortunately, it’s nothing that our Richmond Piano Repair & Restringing services can’t fix.
What about piano tuning! Yes, that’s definitely something you need to get done at least once a year, or more often, depending on your piano’s particular situation. And when I tune a piano, I also fix minor issues that I find, including sticking keys and such.
But as the piano gets older, sometimes it needs repairs that go beyond the basics. Here are just a few things that may have to be fixed…
Are your piano’s strings showing rust? Your trusty piano tuner will let you know if that’s the case. There may be water damage – a beverage (or a vase) spilled on your piano can cause not only rusty strings but also more extensive water damage, including to the pin block.
In other cases, the strings are just plain worn out and even after a thorough tuning, they go back out of tune very quickly. This doesn’t happen often, but strings show their age after a few decades and will have to be replaced.
Arranging Richmond Piano Repair & Restringing
Fortunately, I can usually fix it, by replacing a few damaged strings, or, if the damage is more extensive, by restringing the piano. Now you should know that restringing a piano is a major project and can take several months. Here is more information about piano restringing.
As you can see, restringing your piano is a major endeavor, which also includes moving the piano and storing it in a safe place where the restringing and repairs can be completed. At Southern Piano Service, we partner with professional Richmond piano movers and provide safe, climate controlled piano storage facilities where I can complete even the most extensive Richmond piano restringing projects.
In fact, I also offer complete piano restoration services. If you have an heirloom piano you’d like to have restored to its former beauty, both visually and in terms of its sound, I can definitely help you. I love old pianos, and restoring them to peak condition is one of the things I’m particularly passionate about.
Plan Ahead For Major Repair And Restoration Projects
Since they are very labor intensive, I can fit in only a couple of projects at a time, so let me know if you have one and I can fit your piano into my schedule.
Whether you need piano repair, restringing, or just a tuning, I’ll be happy to help. Just call me at 804-677-2416 – or better, send me a quick text message, and I’ll get right back to you.
